Victorian Hypnosis and Counselling

Recovering from an injury can wear you down. If you're feeling low, frustrated or worried that life won't be the same, hypnotherapy and counselling may help.

A physical injury affects more than your body. Many people I see are stressed about being off work and money being tight, as well as the pain and the slow pace of rehab.

What we work on

We set goals together. These might be:

  • Coping strategies for pain and stress
  • Feeling more hopeful about recovery
  • Staying motivated with rehab and physio
  • A more positive outlook

Working with your medical team

I work alongside your doctors and physio. Hypnotherapy doesn't heal physical injuries, and it doesn't replace medical treatment or rehabilitation. What it may do is help with the stress, mood and motivation that come with recovery.

What a session looks like

Our first session is mostly a conversation. I'll ask about your injury, where you're at with treatment, and how things are going at home and at work. I'll also check that hypnotherapy is suitable for you, and we'll agree on what you'd like to focus on.

From the second session we usually start hypnosis. I'll guide you into a relaxed, focused state while you sit comfortably, fully clothed, and you stay aware of what's happening. We might also practise simple techniques you can use at home on the harder days, and we'll adjust the plan as your recovery changes.

Common questions

Can hypnotherapy help with my pain?

Some people find hypnosis helps them relax and cope with pain and stress, but everyone responds differently and I can't promise it will reduce your pain. It doesn't treat the injury itself, so please keep following the advice of your doctor and physio.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No, you don't need a referral to see me. I do recommend letting your GP or treating team know you're coming, and with your permission I'm happy to work alongside them.

Good to know

Everyone responds differently, so I can't promise a particular result. Hypnotherapy and counselling don't replace medical care, and they sit comfortably alongside your GP or other health professionals.
